Tutor Application & Committee Sign-up Form

Note: If you want to be in a committee and a tutor, please fill out BOTH of the forms.

Apply to be a Tutor.

To ensure that we are providing safe and quality tutors to our students, prospective tutors must first fill out this application. If you are accepted, you will be sent a 1 hour online training that must be completed, undergo a background check, and then attend a mandatory tutor info session after. Once this is complete, you are ready to tutor!

Since you may be tutoring a minor, the application process was made so that we can ensure that you are a safe and reliable tutor. All volunteers working with End The Cycle will be provided with training to ensure they have the skills necessary to work with these students, so it's okay if you don't have perfect answers. We just want to get to know you better!

This form is separate from the committee sign-up form.

Committee Descriptions

Computer Science Literacy

ETC provided a week-long online summer camp for underserved high-school students to gain exposure to Computer Science before college. This is especially helpful because the U-M Computer Science major now requires students to apply to the major, which means that a resume with more CS experience is beneficial. By the end of the program, with the help of our student mentors, each participant will have completed their very own coding project that they can incorporate into their resumes and applications. This committee will continue to work on related projects that target CS literacy.

Targeting Food Insecurity

Washtenaw is a leading county in Michigan in food insecurity, due to vast differences in socioeconomic status. This manifests itself in various parts of livelihood, affecting the social and educational outcomes of adolescents. We work with the local public school districts and community partners to help reduce the gap of provisional resources by increasing access to food or other resources in order to improve the quality of health and education here in Washtenaw County.

Project REACH

This project aims to address the formidable barriers homeless youth encounter in accessing education by establishing a safe and inclusive space. Featuring a pop-up library, this space offers enriching activities and fosters cognitive development through reading and education. Additionally, it will promote community building and interaction among homeless youth. Collaborating with local libraries, the project also facilitates access to online educational resources. In tandem with this, hygiene kits and educational workshops, led by college students, will address immediate needs and equip these young individuals with valuable skills for a more stable future.

Sign up for a committee.

Since committee members do not work directly with students, an application and background check is not necessary. Our committees function more like general UM clubs — they meet weekly or biweekly to complete certain tasks. An application is not required to join a committee. However, if you would like to be a tutor and join a committee, you must fill out both forms.
